Childhood of Catherine Coulter
Catherine hails from Cameron County, Texas, and grew up on a horse ranch. The father of Catherine Coulter is a singer and a painter, whereas her mother is a retired concert pianist. Catherine’s grandmother, who died at age 37, was also a writer.
Catherine wrote two novels when she was fourteen. As a freshman at the University of Texas, she wrote some poetry. Catherine Coulter completed her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and her master’s degree from Boston College in early 19th-century European history.
Catherine Coulter’s Writing Career
After completing her education, Catherine worked as a speechwriter for Wall Street executives. As her husband was a medical student then, she had lots of free time in the evening, and that was when she began reading lots of romantic novels.
While reading one particular novel that she did not like, she claimed to write romance better than that book and her husband challenged her to do so. This incident started the writing journey of Catherine Coulter.
After plotting the novel with her husband and finishing it writing it in the evening, she sent it to the editor at Signet. After three days, she got three book contracts. Her first novel, The Autumn Countess, was published in 1978 and by 1982 she quit her job and be a full-time writer.
Catherine wrote more than fifty books and forty-two of her books are on the list of New York Times bestsellers. Currently, Catherine lives in California with her husband.
