The Night Angel Trilogy
The Night Angel Trilogy is a fantasy series that depicts the life of Azoth as he struggles to become the ultimate assassin with magical talent, but he becomes the epitome of retribution, The Night Angel. The story’s setting is Cenaria City, in a fictional continent, Midcyru.
1] The Way Of Shadows
The Way of Shadows is the first novel in the series, which was published in 2008. Azoth, an orphan, lives in the Warrens of Cenaria City. Warrens is the lawless slum sector of Cenaria, the monarchy with a king and dynastic succession. The city is a politically and militarily insignificant country.
Azoth, with his two friends, Jarl and Doll Girl, steals money to make ends meet. Their way is met with the deaths and rapes of members as they realize that survival is precarious, something that can never be taken for granted. Azoth embraces a new avatar with the help of a new identity and name and forgets his old way of living.
2] Shadow’s Edge
Shadow’s Edge is the second novel of the series, The Night Angel Trilogy. It was published in the year 2008. The novel revolves around Kylar Stern, a Night Angel who was once the apprentice to Durzo Blint. Kylar Stern has left the life of an assassin and has embarked on a new journey, starting over the new city, companions, and a new profession.
He learns that Logan is alive, which makes him rethink his choice of coming out of the shadows or succumbing to the destruction and years of training to lose all the precious elements that he had held for life. Kylar’s foot is in the dark and another in light, and he has to choose which path to follow.
3] Beyond The Shadows
The concluding novel in the series is Beyond the Shadows, which was published in December 2008. The narration of the second novel, The Blinding Knife of the Lightbringer series, is in the third person. It begins four days after the end of the last novel. Gavin Guile initially thought he had five years to live, but he had less than one year left. Gavin has problems arising from every side, with a bastard son, an ex-fiancé who probably knows his darkest secrets, and about 50,000 refugees.
The Satrapies witness the rebirth of old Gods with the magic ruining and destroying The Seven Satrapies. Gavin sees only one way to stop all the destruction by reconciling with his brother from whom he stole his freedom and powers 16 years ago.
3] The Broken Eye
As the old Gods are reborn, Chromeria is in dire need of a capable person who can put an end to the civil war, but Gavin is captivated by an old enemy and is unable to use his powers as Prism and is incapable of helping anyone. Kip Guile faces problems as his grandfather chooses a new Prism. Kip uses all his wits to survive the war between religious factions, noble houses, rebels, and an ascendant order of hidden assassins, The Broken Eye.
4] The Blood Mirror
The fourth book in the series, The Lightbringer, is The Blood Mirror, which depicts the helplessness of the former emperor, Gavin Guile, who is stripped of both political and magical powers and imprisoned in his own magical dungeon. Worse, it does not seem that he is alone in prison. Now, who will save Chromeria?
5] The Burning White
The epic conclusion of the series raises the question in the reader’s mind, will the Lightbringer come to save Chromeria from its doom? Kip, along with his allies, returns for one final stand for Chromeria, which is threatened by treason and captivation.
